The Courage of a Mother
What if one day everything you worked for your entire life was gone?
What would you do?
This is Yasmeen’s story – the story of her resilience.
Yasmeen is a widow and a mother of two. When the devastating earthquake hit Turkey, Yasmeen’s entire life changed.
Injured due to the earthquake, Yasmeen needed surgeries on both legs, and was suffering from neurological issues, adding to her troubles. Because of this she was no longer able to work for her children.
Yasmeen moved to Canada in the hopes of providing her children with a better life. But her struggles didn’t ease. On the contrary, they had just begun.
She moved to a basement apartment, visited food banks but life remained hard. She was still unable to bear the expenses of her children.
But Yasmeen had made it this far, so she did not give up hope. She was a mother, and a resilient one. She learned about National Zakat Foundation through a neighbour, and reached out to us.
Because of your support, we were able to help her put food on the table for her children, providing them with nourishment and comfort after months of hardship. Today, we are working with Yasmeen to help her achieve long-term stability and independence.
Thanks to you and your belief in local giving, single mothers like Yasmeen are able to find relief in a life that is otherwise full of hardship.
When you give Zakat for her, you become a beacon of hope for women like Yasmeen.
