From Gaza to Glendon
Fatima’s story is one of the most heartbreaking stories. She fled the war-torn region of Gaza with her husband and four young children and arrived in Canada, hoping to find peace and a fresh start.
But their new life was met with significant challenges. Fatima and her husband, both well-educated individuals, had left behind everything they had worked their whole lives for. Fatima had studied English literature, while her husband was an accountant.
In Canada, they found refuge in Fatima’s sisters’ house, but their struggles were far from over. The war had left a great impact on Fatima and her family, both financially and emotionally. Two of their children's eyes got injured during the conflict as well and they needed immediate treatment. But despite these hardships, Fatima and her husband didn’t give up.
Fatima was known among her friends as a brave woman who never gave up. She made efforts to secure a job, but neither Fatima nor her husband could find employment. In such difficulty, she found out about National Zakat Foundation through a friend.
Because of your support, we were able to provide immediate relief to Fatima and her family including food, clothing, furniture, and other home essentials. We ensured that the family had access to the necessities required for daily living.
This support was vital in alleviating some of the family's immediate financial pressures. Research shows Canada’s unemployment rate continued to trend higher in August — reaching 6.6 per cent — as the job market slowdown hits workers and job seekers unevenly.(BNN Bloomberg)
With your help, together we have given them the foundation they need to focus on the well-being of their children.
Today, Fatima and her husband have been able to secure employment. They are able to focus on what matters most – their children and their futures.
When you give Zakat for Her, you play a significant role in helping families like Fatima's.
