Jenin’s Story

Finding Support in Brossard

Meet Jenin, a 67-year-old Muslim woman in Quebec. Living alone, she faced numerous challenges, but her unwavering spirit kept her going. Despite severe health issues, Jenin continues to strive for a better future.

Jenin, a Lebanese-born Canadian citizen, has always been a fighter. After her divorce, she decided to continue her education. However, when she encountered severe back and knee pain, requiring extensive physiotherapy and heavy medications, she was unable to register for another semester.

No longer a registered student, she lost the financial support she was receiving from the government and was unable to pay rent. Jenin sold her personal items and maxed out her credit cards to pay her bills and buy food and medication.

Mounting debt and eviction pushed Jenin to reach out to NZF for support.  Because of your belief in local giving, we were able to help Jenin with her rent for a few months, alleviating her immediate financial burdens and allowing her to focus on her recovery and re-enrolling in school.

A report suggests that senior citizens and immigrants have a hard time managing their finances, especially in this age of rising prices. (Stats Can)
