Sahar's Story : On the Verge of Eviction
Sahar arrived in Canada with her four children, only to end up in a shelter due to not having sufficient funds for rent.
Life at the shelter did not suit her children, who on more than one occasion fell sick from the food.
She knew she had to move out but she didn't know how.
After asking around the shelter and talking to people, Sahar made a deal with one of the female residents to move in together and split the rent, under the assumption it would be easier to afford.
Things took the turn for the worst when welfare cut her temporary child support and with winter around the corner, affording essentials and clothing for herself and her kids became impossible. Despite actively searching for work, she was unable to secure anything.
She was now desperate to keep her family safe.
Seeing her struggle, a community member told her about National Zakat Foundation. She applied right away and NZF was able to help cover her shortfall and purchase basic essentials.
But her hardships didn't end there.
A month later, we found her paralyzed in the face and abandoned by her housemate, leaving Sahar to pay the full rent. With no job and a disability, she was on the verge of being evicted. Alhumdulillah, with your donations, we were able to help her with partial rent and cover the cost of her food so that she continue to look for work with the resources for jobs and employment that we provided her.
