NZF Saved Me.

I shut the door and slowly succumbed to the ground as I held my head with my calloused palms. I was unable to keep up with my rent payments for the past few months. My landlord told me I have to leave his apartment. What am I going to tell my kids? How did I become homeless within a span of months? A thousand thoughts whirled around my head, leaving me fogged. I gathered ALL of my strength and courage and picked myself up. What was I going to do?

With the help of Allah (swt) I responded fast and quickly decided to send my kids to my sister’s house to sleep for the night. How was I going to tell those innocent faces that we are homeless and we need to sleep in our car for an uncertain amount of time? A week passed by. My car became my only source of shelter. I requested that my kids stay at my sister’s house a little longer until I figured out the next steps. I searched and searched and found another suitable apartment for rent. However, the apartment was not available until next month and I hardly had enough money to even pay for my bills! At the thought of living in my car for an entire month, I broke down into tears and made dua to Allah (swt). I felt as if I was failing and my thoughts went spiralling.I guess my heartfelt prayers were answered. I reached out to the National Zakat Foundation and explained my whole situation to them. After hearing about my situation, they saw the seriousness of my condition and decided to provide us with financial assistance. NZF paid my rent for my new apartment. They met with me with humility and offered my family and I a place to stay for the time being. Alhamdulillah for organizations like NZF. They came as a blessing in disguise and saved my family from living on the streets. I cannot say Alhamdulillah enough times.
