Why Winter Is the Best Time for the Believer

Winter: A Season for Believers

Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said, “Winter is the Spring of the believer. Its nights are long for him to pray in, and its days are short for him to fast in.” (Ahmad)

Winter brings a special opportunity for Muslims to reflect, worship, and serve others.

Let’s explore why winter is the best time for the believer.

Easy to fast

Winter means shorter days, longer nights and cooler temperatures. That means this is perfect for believers who want to fast or make up for their fasts.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said,

“Fasting in winter is the easy prize” (Tirmidhī)

Time for Night Prayer

Since the days are shorter, the time for Fajr shifts later making it easier to pray Tahajjud by waking up just 10 minutes before Fajr.

Opportunities for Duas

The Prophet ﷺ told us,

“Two are not rejected: the dua made at the time of adhan, and under the rain.”  (Abu Dawud)

Since winter often brings a lot of rain and snow, Muslims can take advantage of these moments and pour their hearts out in their duas.

Reminder of Blessings

Winter is a time when we truly feel blessed for the home and blessings we have. It’s a time we realize the comfort in the warmth of our homes when we enjoy cozy moments with our families on chilly nights.

And who doesn’t love food? Winter brings a range of delicious fruits and meals that keep us nourished and warm.

How You Can Help Others this Winter

We must be grateful to Allah for all the blessings and comforts we have.

And one of the best ways to be grateful is to share our blessings.

Here is a list of a few easy things to do to be grateful and to make your winter even more meaningful, impactful, and blessed:

  • Take part in or start a food drive.
  • Collect and distribute warm clothes, blankets, and other winter essentials to those in need of them.
  • Volunteer in local organizations that serve the homeless or low-income families.
  • Reach out to families you know need help to provide food, clothing, and other essentials.
  • Use social media to spread awareness about the struggles vulnerable communities face during winter to get more people to contribute.
  • Give to charity organizations which support those affected by the winter season.

Your donation to the NZF Winter Campaign will provide shelter and essentials for families in Gaza, Sudan, and vulnerable Canadian Muslims.
